Mussar Classes with Rabbi Marcia Plumb

You will meet regularly as part of a group with Rabbi Marcia Plumb and deeply engage with the study of ancient and modern texts that illuminate the Middah (soul trait) being explored. In some courses you will also meet with a study partner, your chevruta, on your own schedule, and you will continue the study of the Middah through conversation guided by questions raised during the prior classes.

Mussar is both an Individual and communal process of inner change. The personal and group experiences complement and build on each other.

You as an individual:

  • Choose to change a behavior or thought pattern (I need more patience, compassion, inner calm, less judgment, better boundaries, etc.)

  • Choose to learn Mussar to change for the better, and have inner health and a sense of holiness

  • Do spiritual practices to help integrate the learning into our lives

The Mussar class/group (Va’ad):

  • Studies accessible texts together

  • Discusses how to use the study in our lives

  • Supports each other in change

No prior knowledge needed. All texts are in English (with Hebrew added).
